Product description
Product description
The FOX-ESS EP5 is a high-voltage lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery module specifically designed to work with FOX-ESS hybrid inverters. The battery provides a nominal and fully usable (100% DoD) capacity of 5.18 kWh, ensuring that stored energy can be used without loss.
The EP5 has a modular design: multiple batteries can be connected in parallel, allowing the total energy storage capacity to be gradually expanded according to needs. A maximum of 4 batteries can be used in one system, enabling a total capacity of up to 20.8 kWh.
The advantage of high-voltage operation is better efficiency and lower current load, resulting in more stable operation and less loss. The battery operates with a cycle efficiency of around ≥95%, making it suitable for daily charging and discharging cycles.
The EP5 can be wall-mounted or floor-mounted, and its IP65 protection makes it suitable for both outdoor and indoor installation. Natural convection cooling ensures a simple structure and quiet operation. Through CAN communication, the battery is in continuous data connection with the inverter, so the charging and discharging process is always controlled.
The FOX-ESS EP5 is compatible with FOX-ESS H1, KH, H3, H3-PRO, and US series inverters, making it flexibly adaptable to various single-phase and three-phase hybrid systems.

How do I choose the right battery?
How do I choose the right battery?
First, always check if the battery is compatible with your inverter, as not all systems work with all manufacturers. This information is usually found in the inverter's technical data sheet.
Next, you should consider what storage capacity you need (kWh). This depends on how much energy you want to store and which appliances you wish to operate in case of a power outage. If you are considering future expansion, it is advisable to choose a modularly expandable system.
An important distinction is that some systems operate in a closed ecosystem (e.g., only compatible with batteries from their own manufacturer), while other inverters can be connected to products from multiple manufacturers, thus providing greater flexibility.
If you are unsure about your choice, it is worth seeking expert advice – this can help avoid compatibility issues and unnecessary costs.
How do inverter types differ?
How do inverter types differ?
Inverters differ in several aspects, depending on the system and requirements for which they are used.
1. Grid-tied (on-grid) inverter
This is the most common type. It feeds the generated energy directly back into the grid and does not operate during a power outage.
2. Hybrid inverter
It is also capable of managing batteries, so the generated energy can be stored. In the event of a power outage, certain systems can also provide backup power.
3. Off-grid inverter
Completely independent of the grid. Used in places where there is no electrical grid (e.g., holiday homes, farmsteads).
4. By phase: single-phase and three-phase
Single-phase: for smaller systems (family homes, lower consumption)
Three-phase: for larger systems, with balanced load distribution
5. String inverter vs. optimized system
String inverter: several panels connected in series
Optimized system: individual optimizers per panel, better performance in case of shading
What happens in a power outage?
What happens in a power outage?
In the event of a power outage, the system's operation depends on the inverter type.
If the inverter has a backup (off-grid) function, it automatically switches to battery mode during a power outage, allowing selected consumers (e.g., lighting, refrigerator, essential appliances) to continue operating.
If the inverter does not support this function, the system will shut down in the event of a power outage. This means there will be no power supply even if the solar panels are generating electricity, as grid-tied inverters do not operate without grid voltage for safety reasons.
Therefore, if continuous power supply is important, it is advisable to choose an inverter-battery system that supports backup operation.
What is the warranty on the batteries?
What is the warranty on the batteries?
Battery warranties vary by manufacturer and type.
In most cases, a 5–10 year manufacturer's warranty is provided, which for some models may also be tied to a specific number of charging cycles or performance.
The exact warranty conditions are specified for each product, so before purchasing, you can clearly see the duration and conditions under which the warranty is valid.
If you have any questions regarding the warranty, we will help you navigate the details to ensure you choose the system that best suits your needs.
What happens if the battery fails?
What happens if the battery fails?
As a first step, it's worth checking if the problem is indeed with the device itself, as in many cases, the issue lies with settings, communication, or system connection, rather than the battery.
If the fault is verifiably linked to the product, investigation and resolution will be carried out within the framework of warranty administration, involving the manufacturer or distributor.
If needed, we can assist in initiating and guiding this process to ensure troubleshooting is as quick and smooth as possible.
