Tongwei Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chengdu, China) originally started in 1992 in the field of aquaculture and animal feed production, then consciously expanded its activities towards the photovoltaic (PV) industry from 2006. The company operates along a dual focus of "green agriculture & green energy": it is a significant player in both animal feed production and the energy industry.

In the solar energy sector, Tongwei is particularly strong in upstream silicon manufacturing (high-purity crystalline silicon), cell manufacturing, and module manufacturing — thus operating a complete vertical chain that extends through the "wafer → cell → module" steps. According to its own statements, in 2024 it had an annual cell production capacity of more than 150 GW, and its module production is also among the most significant players in the world.

Of particular interest is Tongwei's "Fishery + PV" model: projects where solar panel systems are installed above fish ponds, thus serving both aquaculture and electricity generation simultaneously.
